The problem

For centuries the Amazon has been regularly referred to as the “lungs of our planet”. Rainforests contain 90-140 billion metric tons of carbon that impact every single breath we take and help stabilize local and global climate. Unfortunately these areas are being destroyed at prodigious rates. This is particularly damaging because the Amazon contains the world’s highest biodiversity concentrations with an amazing array of flora and fauna species that provide preservation of the biosphere for our generation and generations to come.

What planting peace is doing

Planting Peace has purchased 624 acres of Peruvian rainforest land, which has now been placed in a land trust and is 100 percent shielded from decimation. Our hope is to continue to buy land around our existing reserve so we can expand our parameter, thus expanding our protective practices of the Amazon.

Reasons Amazon is being destroyed

18% of the Amazon rainforest has been destroyed.

Cattle farming

Cattle farmers clear cut forest to create grazing land for their herds.

Agriculture

South America produces a large percentage of the grown food that we consume in the United States on deforested land.

Logging

Logging for development and other uses takes a large toll on rainforests.

Mining

Mining for ores and oil destroys eco-systems and land.
